Diamond Valley Lake, known as the “Jewel of California Lakes,” is a colorful Spring retreat for nature lovers. Located in the Santa Margarita Watershed, the land around the lake is home to acres of seasonal wildflowers. Blooms include every color in the rainbow from red, orange and yellow to blue and purple with native California poppies, baby blue eyes, canterbury bells, and owl’s clovers, to name a few.
The North Hills Trail (6 miles) and the Flower Trail (3 miles) provide the best opportunities to experience the beauty of the wildflowers. These trails are accessible to pedestrians and horseback riders. The poppies need full sun to bloom at their best so optimal viewing time is after 9 a.m. and before 3 p.m.
An affordable entrance fee of $9 per car, make this a family-friendly opportunity you won’t want to miss. There is also a fee for access to certain trails. Call ahead to confirm current hours and fees 951-926-7201. For more information visit the Diamond Valley Lake website.
