With the heat of summer fast approaching, we have a few tips to help you avoid overwatering your yard. These tips will prevent irrigation runoff from picking up any waste left behind, such as trash, pet waste, and fertilizers, among other harmful pollutants. Help keep our watersheds clean!
Overwatering Prevention Tips:
- Do not drown your lawn – We recommend setting up an irrigation system that does not water your lawn for more than 5 minutes. In fact, the most efficient time frame for yard watering is between 3 – 5 minutes! Afterward, let your lawn soak up the water.
- Regularly monitor your irrigation system – Broken or misdirected sprinklers need to be fixed or replaced ASAP! This will prevent you from overwatering your lawn and encourage water conservation.
- It’s all about timing – The most optimal time to water your lawn is once before sunrise or after sunset. Remember to turn off your irrigation system when it rains.
